About me

Hi, I’m Amy!

My legal career took a turn in 2007, when I had my twin boys and realized we needed a Will! We needed Guardianship Planning! We needed legal documents to put our plans into place in case the worst happened, and my boys were left without parents. I had already left my previous law practice to stay at home with my babies. So, between diaper changes and feedings, this Mama Bird began learning how to put legal protections in place for us – and then I began doing it for other parents.

Since 2008, my focus has been giving peace of mind to parents by helping them put their wills, trusts, and guardianship plans in place for their children, toddlers, and babies. However, those little hatchlings have grown up since and are leaving the nest! So now, there are new fears arising. These parents aren’t worried about guardians anymore. Their new fear is what if their now not-so-baby anymore is in an accident or becomes ill while away from home?

While this is a common worry for most parents, from my legal perspective, it is intensified by the fact that once our kids turn 18, they are considered adults in the eyes of the law. This means that we are no longer their guardians – we don’t have the LEGAL AUTHORITY to make medical or financial decisions on their behalf!

Unless our kids have given us the ability to help them when they need it by putting together three necessary legal documents, then we may be facing huge legal fees, and begging medical personnel to let us have information about or even access to a hospitalized child. The healthcare privacy laws prevent medical personnel from contacting family members of an adult child who’s been in an accident. I have seen this firsthand, and it can be avoided altogether with the right protections in place.

...so, I created the Wise Birds Workshop.
