Are you a Colorado Parent of a Young Adult?

If you have a child turning 18 soon or is already 18+ in Colorado, it's important for you to know your legal rights as their parent!

Did you know?

When your child turns 18, they are considered an adult in the eyes of the law.

What does this mean?

You will no longer have the legal authority to make medical or financial decisions for him or her, UNLESS your child provides that legal authority to you.

View the Consumer Report about helping your college-aged child during an emergency.

Without documentation...

  • You won’t be the first call (or even called at all) in case of an emergency or even be notified
  • You won’t be able to make financial decisions for your young adult, including with insurance decisions, a lawsuit, bill payments and credit cards, insurance, or negotiating medical bills.
